Ecru, MS.-

Thursday, February 14, 2019, in Pontotoc County, MS. Around 330 pm two workers at the American Furniture Plant discovered a fire in one of the warehouses then another. Due to the intensity of the fires, weather conditions and only one fire hydrant made for some difficulty for firefighters. The blaze took around two and a half hours to put out. Backup tankers we called from Ingomar, West Union, and Southwest.

American Furniture stated no employees were injured in the fire. Further investigation led police to believe it was arson. This was the third fire to happen at this facility in 13 months.

On Thursday a Pontotoc County man was taken into custody.  On Friday he was charged with three counts of second-degree arson in connection with Thursday’s fire. Pontotoc County Sheriff Leo Mask released the suspect’s name. The suspect was arraigned Friday and bond was set at 100,000$. The suspect confessed to setting the fires after he applied for a job at the facility. He was a former employee at Delta Furniture and had recently been terminated.  America Furniture President Randy Spak said, ” America furniture will continue … we told all our employees to report back to work on Monday.”
