Precautionary Lock-down at West Union Attendance Center, Myrtle MS. on March 5, 2019

On Tuesday March 5, 2019, at about 2:40pm a notification went out on the Union County School Board facebook page. The notification stated that the West Union School was on lockdown with more information to follow.

IMG_0038 We reached out to the School Board office to get more information. We were told the Union County Sheriff’s Office had placed the school on a precautionary lockdown while they searched for a suspect in the area. The students were dismissed at 3:30pm

We later learned that Sheriff Jimmy Edwards had stated that Officers arrived at a home in close proximity to the school to issue a warrant. The suspect ran while searching for the person of interest the lockdown was issued as a precaution measure.

It was also confirmed the suspect was found and arrested at a home on County Road 16, which is also close to West Union School.

Thank you to the Officers and the Union County Sheriff’s Office for responding quickly to the Safety and Security of the Students while searching for the suspect.
