“Learning History through Literature”

Laney Whitt (left) and Lexi Fitzgerald, 4th-grade students in Teresa Ohler’s Language Arts class, read Who Was Jim Henson? as part of the “Learning History through Literature” project.  Students are reading this book and making connections to famous Mississippians.  The books were purchased through a school grant made possible by the Dean Provence Endowment for Excellence in Education.

Jim Henson broke into television with a five-minute puppetry segment when he was only a freshman in college. He created puppets like none ever seen before, with expressive fabric faces and rod-controlled arms. His Muppets became world-renowned celebrities and formed the backbone of a media empire
