On November 5, New Albany School District was honored during the Mississippi Department of Education’s Celebration of Excellence Tour, which is recognizing all A districts in the state of Mississippi.
Dr. Carey Wright, state superintendent of education, was in attendance to personally congratulate the students and staff and thank them for their hard work. “We have 145 districts in the state of Mississippi and you are only 1 of 31 of those districts that earned an A.”
In addition to that, New Albany Middle School’s Science scores were ranked number 4 in the state. Dr. Wright also noted, “Mississippi’s 8th graders ranked 3rd in the nation for their gains in mathematics and 4th in the nation for their gains in reading.”
Mississippi also ranks No. 1 in the nation for 4th grade score gains in reading and mathematics. Mississippi 4th graders scored higher than the national average in mathematics and tied the nation in reading for the first time ever.
To add to the festivities, there were performances by the New Albany Middle School Cheerleaders; the New Albany High School Air Force JROTC; cast members of the New Albany High School’s musical; the New Albany Elementary School 4th Grade Music Class; and the New Albany High School’s Pride of New Albany Marching Band.
