Mississippi to see Marijuana on November Ballot

This year, Mississippi voters will have a chance to vote on the legalization of marijuana in the state.

Mississippians for Compassionate Care worked to earn signatures to qualify Initiative 65, an amendment that would allow individuals wwith “debilitating medical conditions, as certified by Mississippi licensed physicians, to use medical marijuana” for the 2020 ballot. They needed 86,000 signatures to achieve their goal. In September of 2019, the organization submitted 105,686 signatures.

Now that the Secretary of State’s office has reviewed and approved those signatures, Initiative 65 is now on the ballot. Now, the Mississippi Legislature has four months to review the initiative before the next statewide general election. Lawmakers also have the choice to amend, adopt, or reject the initiative.
