House Armed Services Subcommittee Holds Hearing on Exceptional Family Member Program

On February 5, 2020, the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel held a hearing to address the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP).

The purpose of the program is to assist military families with spouses or children that have specialized needs or educational assistance requirements; however, after a review of the program by Chairwoman Jackie Speier and Representative Trent Kelly, it was discovered that Service Members and their families are being failed by the program. As a result, a hearing was arranged to listen to testimony from parents who have struggled with this program and to question Department of Defense (DOD) representatives and other government officials who are responsible for carrying out the program’s mandate.
