Joyce (Lambert) HolderOct 16, 1946 – Mar 5, 2020Joyce Holder (73) passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was a member of New Lebadon Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crafting, working in her flower beds and she thoroughly loved her dog, Paris. Services are 2 pm Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Fairview Church of God with Bro. Jack Whitley and Bro. Jerry Tennison officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery. Dortha Jean Putt 1945 – Mar 9, 2020Dortha Jean “Nanny” Putt (75) gained her heavenly wings on March 9, 2020. She was a graduate of Mooreville High School and she was a seamstress for most of her life. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren first, reading and watching her TV programs. She had a small hand in half of the communities kids as well. She will be painfully missed everyday. Nina (Moorman) MorrisonDec 4, 1969 ~ Mar 14, 2020 Nina J. Morrison (50) passed away Saturday March 14, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit in Tupelo. She was a member of Booneville Church of Christ. She attended Freed-Hardeman and received her National Board Masters from Walden University. She taught school for twenty plus years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday March 17, 2020 at Booneville Church of Christ with Minister Jonathan Godsey and Shelby Moorman officiating. Burial will follow in Jones Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Monday, March 16, 2020 at Booneville Church of Christ. Raymond Earl DavisMar 30, 1939 – Mar 4, 2020Raymond Earl (Scrap) Davis, 80, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at his home in the Auburn Community after an extended illness. He was born on March 30, 1939 in Cherokee, Alabama to the late Omar Gaston Davis and Lue Ella Brown Davis of Cherokee, Alabama. Mr. Davis was a very talented man that was gifted with the ability to design and create many different types of equipment and machinery used within the companies that he worked. Over the years, he was employed by Purnell’s Pride in Tupelo, Bassett Furniture in Saltillo, and Confortaire, Inc. in Tupelo to name a few. Raymond was a very loving, dedicated husband and father and was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Over the years, you would find Raymond at a ball field watching his children or grandchildren playing ball or perhaps, you were fortunate enough to attend one of his many fish fries that were always a hit with friends and family. He enjoyed riding horses, coon hunting, fishing, and had been known to earn trophies within either of these areas. He also enjoyed spending time with his close friend Donnie Simmons.Services will be held on Saturday, March 7th beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Waters Funeral Home in Baldwyn with Mr. Davis’ daughter, Marie Frison, officiating. Burial will be at the Beech Springs Cemetery. Ronald Earl SmithOct 29, 1926 – Mar 9, 2020Ronald Smith, 93, of Dumas, passed away on March 09, 2020 at the NMMC after an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born on October 29,1926 to Mrs. Emma Roberts Smith and Herman Smith in Union County, MS. He attended and graduated from Center High School where he was an outstanding basketball player. He was a farmer, owned a small sawmill and worked at Futorian for may years. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, singing and watching basketball on television and listening to all of the local teams play on the radio. Mr. Smith was a lifeling member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. He was a kind, caring man who lived a simple life with the heart of a servant and will be greatly missed by his family, community and friends. He was a devoted son to his mother, and was a “Big Brother” to his cousins he grew up with. “Day” as he was known by his family was an inspiration to many.Funeral services will be at Waters Funeral Home on Wedneday, March 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Charles Ray RowanAug 12, 1927 – Mar 12, 2020Charles Ray Rowan, 92, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2020 in Mobile, AL. He was a veteran of World War II; the owner of Rowan’s Body, Frame and Muffler Shop for fifty-three years; and an active member and deacon of Baldwyn First Baptist Church for over fifty years. When he moved to Mobile in 2019, it was important to him to belong to a local body of believers so he joined Spring Hill Baptist Church to worship with his daughter and her family.Charles is survived by his son, Kenneth Rowan (Brenda) of Baldwyn; daughter, Pat Rowan Richey (Terry) of Mobile, AL; and son, Tim Rowan (Amy) of Terry, MS. Seven grandchildren: Tracy Rowan Walden (Brad); Susan Rowan McBrayer (Davy Joe); Laura Allyson Richey Miller (Randolph); Abby Richey Hines (Worth); Jeremy Rowan (Sarah Margaret); Luke Rowan (Madison); and Sarah-Kate Rowan. Mrs. Eula Mae CartwrightJun 7, 1929 – Mar 4, 2020Eula Mae Mayo Cartwright, 90, affectionately known as “MeMaw,” passed peacefully on March 4, 2020, at her home. She was born to George Clinton and Ida Edna Fugitt Mayo on June 27, 1929, in Prentiss County. She was a graduate of New Site High School and continued her education at Northeast Mississippi Junior College. On December 27, 1948, she married her lifelong sweetheart of 71 years, Travis Junior Cartwright “PePaw.” For over forty-five years, Eula Mae and Travis were faithful members of First United Methodist Church. Eula Mae worked her entire life alongside her husband and her best friend. No matter what profession Travis had, she was beside him every step of the way. She always supported him to the fullest. She was an avid bridge player, always enjoyed hosting bridge games at her home. She exemplified the qualities of a true southern lady, including being a wonderful cook and even better hostess. She left a lasting impression on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with many life lessons. She enjoyed every countless moment with her grands and great-grands. Mrs. Posey enjoyed working in the yard, sewing, and taking care of her cats and dogs. Her children said they could remember spending all night on the boat while Mrs. Laura would fish. Gerald Dayton HardinAug 12, 1934 – Mar 10, 2020Gerald Dayton Hardin passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo. He was born August 12, 1934 to the late Dayton Harden and Elzie Mae Cooper Brinkley. Gerald married Sadie Yates on June 7, 1953. She was the love of his life. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was employed at Plumrose for 28 years. After 20 years of service at Tennessee Valley Regional Housing Authority he retired. He was a member of West Booneville Church of Christ where he proudly served as a deacon. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12, at 2:00 P.M. at McMillan Funeral home with Bro. Ward Hogland and Bro. Jerry Trimble officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the funeral home. McMillan Funeral Home will be in charge of the services. He enjoyed drag racing and sports especially when his grandchildren and great grandchildren were playing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved them dearly. She was married to the father of her children, Cletus Arno Nixon for over 49 years. They resided on Highway 57 in the Michie, TN area until 1991. Since, she has resided at 3136 Kendrick Road in Corinth, MS. She was born on November 11, 1929 to Aud and Jennie Mask as the ninth of ten children. Married at the young age of 14, she was not quite sixteen when her first child was born. She would give birth to all five of her children by the time she was twenty-six years old. Gary was born August 24, 1959 to Eugene and Troye Looney in Eudora MS. At age 18, he began a life-long career in law enforcement that spanned 42 years and numerous counties in north Mississippi. Nothing brought Gary greater joy than being a husband, father and grandfather. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 27 years, Lisa Palmer Looney; his children: Brandon Leak (Janalee) of Lamar, Eddie Looney (Christina) of Senatobia, Jamye Thweatt (Jonathan) of Byhalia, Zachary Looney of Waterford, and Zane Looney (Hannah) of Waterford; his grandchildren: Preston Leak, Claire Leak, Jackson Leak, and Owen Thweatt; two sisters: Brenda Taylor (Howard) of Eudora and Sharon Looney of Tchulahoma; three brothers: David Looney (Judy) of Sarah, Warren Looney (Judy) of Arkabutla, and Billy Looney of Byhalia; his mother-in-law, Maxine Smith Palmer; a host of nieces and nephews; and his law enforcement brothers and sisters. Gary attended Spring Hill Baptist Church in Waterford. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Gene Looney and Michael Looney; two sisters: Charlotte Looney and Linda Looney; and his father-in-law, Harold Palmer.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Dr. Robert E. Tyson (Bob). She was born on August 31, 1930, in Memphis TN, to Ellis Bryan Anderson and Jane Lutz Anderson. She graduated from Hutchison School in Memphis TN, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education at Belhaven College in Jackson MS. She served for many years as head of adult education at Galloway United Methodist Church and later became a diaconal minister in the Mississippi United Methodist Conference, both in Jackson. When she and Bob retired to his hometown of Holly Springs, she took an active role in their local church.She is survived by four children who cherished her: Jane Franklin Tyson of Collierville TN; Robert Emmon Tyson Jr (Irene Dumas Tyson) of Columbia SC; Carolyn Louise (Lou) Tyson of Holly Springs MS; and Sara Tyson Hannon (William James Hannon Jr.) of Germantown TN. He was born in Vardaman to Albert and Ruth Ell Cooper on June 11, 1956. He was married to Virginia for a short time before her death. He enjoyed being outside fishing, hunting, and gardening until his health declined. He was a member of Old Town Baptist Church. He loved being a uncle to his nieces and nephews. He is survived by his son David Allen Cooper of Derma, his daughter, Kim Cooper of Vardaman; his sisters, Janie Russell of Pontotoc and Carol Johnson of Vardaman; his brothers, Bobby Joe Cooper of Vardaman, Tommy Cooper and Richard Cooper both of Houston; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ruth Cooper; his wife, Virginia Cooper; a brother, Henry Cooper; a sister, Glenda Cooper; and one grandchild.A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 2:00 at Jesus is Lord Church in Vardaman with Brother Johnny Davidson officiating. Harold Wayne Hodges, IIIJul 5, 1968 – Mar 1, 2020Wayne Hodges, 51, was called home to heaven on March 1, 2020. Wayne was born July 5, 1968, to Harold W. Hodges, Jr. and Kathy Malpass Hodges in Jackson, MS. He grew up in Jackson attending First Presbyterian Day School, Education Center and graduated with a business degree from Mississippi College. He was baptized as an infant and made his profession of faith as a child at Alta Woods Presbyterian Church PCA in Jackson. After graduating from Mississippi College Wayne moved to Algoma, MS and worked for the next 25 years in his dad’s businesses. After moving to north MS Wayne joined the Lawndale Presbyterian Church PCA in Tupelo, MS where for the last 20 years he served taking up monies at the Wednesday night family supper. Wayne also attended Old Monroe Presbyterian Church in Algoma as well as the Algoma Baptist Church. As a child Wayne was diagnosed as autistic at a time when autism was an unknown handicap. Wayne’s mother devoted her life to raising Wayne including taking him to early speech therapy, teaching him scripture and assisting with his education. Wayne overcame his handicap to lead a productive life with many friends. One of Wayne’s favorite things in life was attending antique car shows with his father. They showed several antique cars over the last 30 years and traveled to many shows and swap meets. Wayne was a member of the Pontotoc Ridge Runners car club. He owned several cars over the years but his last, a Mustang convertible, was his favorite. Wayne is survived by his parents, his paternal grandmother, Alene C. Hodges of Algoma, His aunt and uncle, Patti and Bill Hodges of Tupelo, his cousin Wesley Hodges (Jeannie) of Las Vegas, NV, and his cousin Wade Hodges of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Harold W. Hodges, Sr., his maternal grandfather Jesse Malpass, his maternal grandmother Maurine Burns, a favorite aunt and uncle, Martha and Edward Easley, and numerous great aunts and uncles. Services will be at Browning Funeral Home, Pontotoc, MS at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 3, 2020. She had several nicknames; Totan, Suzy, and Gerty. She graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1982 and then attended IJC. She worked at Kroger, Super Sagless, and North MS Medical Center. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, murder mysteries, and reading. Her most favorite time was spent with her family, especially her nephews, and visits with her closest friends during her illness.
