The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians announced on June 12 that the Former First Lady of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, Lena John Denson, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020, from complications from COVID-19. “Mrs. Lena, as she was known, was married to former Miko (Tribal Chief) Beasley, Denson. Not only was she an important figure in the history of the Choctaw Tribe, she was a strong woman of faith, love, and compassion for her fellow Choctaw people,” MBCI stated in a news release. Denson was 70 years old.
Denson was well-known and beloved in the community, having served nearly three decades as the Directory of the Elderly Nutrition Program at the Choctaw Elderly Activity Center.
